This project monitors rising water levels in real-time using ultrasonic sensors and alerts nearby residents or authorities through IoT platforms. It plays a vital role in early flood detection and disaster management. The system uses microcontrollers to collect water level data and communicates wirelessly using the internet to update a central monitoring dashboard or app.

 

Components: 

  • ESP32 or ESP8266 – the brain of the system (microcontroller with Wi-Fi)
  • Ultrasonic Sensor (HC-SR04) – measures water level without touching water
  • Buzzer – gives sound alert if water level is too high
  • LCD Display or OLED Display – shows the water level in real time
  • Jumper Wires – to connect everything
  • Breadboard or PCB – base to mount and connect components
  • Battery or Adapter (5V) – to power the system
  • Wi-Fi connection – needed to send data to mobile app or cloud

 

How It Works

  • The ultrasonic sensor detects water level by measuring the distance between itself and the water surface.

  • The ESP32/ESP8266 microcontroller reads the sensor data.

  • If the level crosses a certain threshold, the system sends alerts via Blynk/ThingSpeak.

  • The system can display levels on an LCD and automatically log data in real time.
